Designing a Lingerie Collection
Designing a lingerie collection is not every fashion designer’s cup of tea. It is important to work with lingerie specialists in every phase of realising your collection. For lingerie brands it’s crucial the fit of your garments is spot on if you want customers to return. The following steps are necessary to create a lingerie collection:
CONCEPT DEVELOPMENT
This is the start of the process beginning with the input I’ve received from you. From a moodboard, interesting other brands, brand identity, material samples and other inspiration you might be able to provide, I will first make a final moodboard for you to approve. After approval I will design the requested pieces for your collection.
Depending on your budget I will provide you with 2 or more concept collections to choose from. You will pick one concept and from there 2 rounds of revision are included.
Sourcing
For this process we can iterate with materials you find or materials we find together (consultancy in sourcing is optional of course).
TOILE AND FIT ASESSMENT
After the designs have been approved and chosen, I will start creating these designs in real life with similar (and cheaper) materials to the final materials. Basic fit assessment will be done with a fit model that has your sample size. If you need help determining your sample size or your sizing system I can consult in that. The fit assessment is especially important for the tops as fit is crucial in this area. In addition I can perform extended user research on the pieces of choice including fit feedback and user testing.
CREATING PATTERNS AND GRADE TO MULTIPLE SIZES
When the toiling is approved on fit (also possible through skype/facetime) I will process the designs into patterns. For every pattern I will grade to the required sizes.
CREATING FINAL SAMPLES
In this phase I will create final samples of the pieces with the materials we have sourced together or you have sourced yourself. This can be done in the sample size for each design or in multiple sizes. If there is still some sourcing to do, I can assist on finding the perfect materials for the designs to really come to life.
TECHPACKS
For every piece created I will provide you with techpacks for your production facility to start producing. Techpacks for every piece created include:
- Technical design specification
- Measurement Specification (with point of measure)
- Construction Specification
- BOM (Bill of Material)
- Packaging and labelling Specification
